Thinking about relocating?

Huron County is a fantastic choice!

Community Information

A dozen communities dot Huron County in Michigan's Thumb. You’ll find quaint lakeside villages, hubs of agriculture & industry, and bustling resort towns. Each with its own personality and unique character but all influenced by the abundance and beauty of Lake Huron and rich, productive farmland of the area.

"Where The Countryside Meets the Lakeshore" means 93 miles of Lake Huron shoreline meets 836 square miles of land. You will find the shoreline, traveled via M-25, to be mostly residential and cottage homes spaced between six shoreline communities. Travel just a mile or so inland and you will meet countryside, as in miles of farmland interspersed with woods and homes. Six more inland communities round out Huron County's cities and villages. The centrally located county seat is Bad Axe and from here you can reach every other community within 20 to 30 minutes.

We’ve created a profile for each of our communities to give you a better look at what they offer. You’ll find information about population & demographics, links to more resources, and photos of each community. See them here or on the map.

Can do attitude

Huron County is the kind of place where we like to do things ourselves. You’ll find locally owned fiber broadband and wireless communications providers.

Part of our area is served by an energy cooperative and another is served by a city owned power company. We have many other cooperatives in the agricultural sector for products like milk, beans, corn, and wheat.

We have locally based credit unions and small banks. Huron County is also producing a large amount of green energy with wind & solar farms throughout the county.

Thriving industry

Huron County is home to number of different industries but agriculture is a huge part of our local economy and landscape with many large and small scale farms. Our farmers grow a variety of cash crops like wheat, barley, beans, and sugar beets and there are many dairy & beef farms as well. We also are home to some smaller, more traditional farms and organic operations.

We have a large manufacturing base spread throughout the county, including international manufacturing companies like Corteva Agriscience, Sensient Flavors and Tower Automotive.

Tourism & travel have increased significantly in the last decade as well, brining visitors from all over the world to enjoy our natural setting at an affordable price.
