Spotlight on Ubly
At the root of Huron County, near our southern border, exists the Village of Ubly. The Village of Ubly has evolved tremendously since its inception in 1896, though its past still influences the community’s rural charm. What was once a densely wooded area gradually gave way to miles of gently rolling hills and farm fields, but not without toil and determination from the pioneers who came to settle and build a life in the area.
Today, Ubly still exhibits these fundamental characteristics within its community. This small village is largely industrious, agrarian, and humble. The surrounding farms and agricultural facilities play a key role in the Thumb’s agricultural output, while the industry also thrives with three local manufacturing facilities. Gemini Group, the leader behind these facilities, has recently expanded its logistics capabilities with a 200,000 square foot facility on the edge of town. Valley-Enterprises, a member of Gemini Group, is also expanding its operations. The future is looking bright for this small town as the Village of Ubly is currently updating its master, zoning, and recreation plans for the future.
A great place to raise a family, the Village of Ubly has a public school, library, and two medical clinics, in addition to an ambulance, fire, and police department. Along Main Street, you will find the picture of small-town living where many of the Village’s shops and offices reside. There are also two public parks, a golf course, and a museum that add to the community’s charm. Only a stone’s throw away from Bad Axe, the Thumb’s central hub, you have access to even more shops and services.
The things needed for a good quality of living are not hard to find in Ubly, and the evidence of this can be easily found by talking to one of the Village’s residents or families. Besides, they don’t call it Bearcat Pride just because!
