Spotlight on Sebewaing

We’re just now starting to be teased by the hints of spring, but, in the Village of Sebewaing, springtime has already arrived. New growth is taking hold in the historic downtown area with new businesses starting in places that had been vacant for years.

One of the contributing factors to the growth is the investment that the community made in installing a fiber-optic network for its residents and businesses. With over 500 fiber connections in town and with gigabit fiber speeds, Sebewaing truly is Michigan’s Gigabit Village. The community offers incentives to both new homeowners and to businesses located in the community.

This has led to new businesses popping up in Sebewaing. The Riverside Hair Loft, owned by Melissa Eurich, (989) 529 4999 is located at 47 N. Center St. in a newly renovated building in the downtown area.

Doug and Chris Deming have committed to the downtown by purchasing a building and putting in an enormous amount of time and effort renovating and restoring it. They will have hunting and fishing antiques for sale along with other consignment items. And….they will be selling hand-dipped hard ice cream in an old-fashioned setting.

The Village is working on their Main Park Restroom Improvements.  They have applied for and been awarded the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Trust Fund Grant to demolish the existing restroom and construct a new, universally accessible restroom in the Main Park at a projected cost of $220,000.  The grant is a 50/50 match; therefore, the grant will be matching funds up to $100,000 leaving the Village’s portion at $120,000.  

Every building in Sebewaing tells a story of community and commitment. Over the past year, many buildings have been sold downtown with new businesses being planned for all of them.
