Active Feed is a family owned business in their third-generation. During the mid-1950's, Joe Maust Sr., who originally owned a propane business, began to explore feed production and ultimately founded Active Feed Company in 1961.
The company began by serving poultry producers, selling poultry feed and egg-laying systems under the first-generation. As of the third-generation, the business has expanded to sell dairy, beef, and swine feeds as well, producing over 300 tons of feed per day.
Active Feed also operates two other divisions. Farm Crest Foods is a poultry business, providing local grocery stores with packaged eggs from over 850,000 laying hens.
In addition, Joe Sr. went back to his propane roots in 1991 and re-established Huron Gas LLC, which serves local companies and residents with affordable propane gas.
Based out of the village of Pigeon in Huron County, Active Feed and its subsidiaries are a proud part of the "Thumb" community and the great State of Michigan. The company has served the state's farmers, wholesalers, and grocery stores for decades, and will continue to do so for generations to come.
